Need a Spring Break Idea without a passport

Need a spring break idea, but dont have a passport? With the new passport rules, it is no longer the case that you can cross into Mexico or Canada without one UNLESS DRIVING (then a birth certificate and drivers license will suffice at the current time). Here are your options:

1. Apply for a passport and utilize the expedited service. This process will still take 3 weeks to complete, so you must do so ASAP! The cost is 60 dollars in addition to the $100 in fees. You will need to go to: http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/get/fees/fees_837.html for all the information.

2. Drive to Mexico or Canada- if your close, you can still drive. Otherwise ROAD TRIP baby! Most people will tell you NOT to drive into Mexico, but that is no longer the case. Roads are fine in most parts of Mexico. There are several beaches that are close to the border that are almost as good as Cancun or the other major resorts.

2. Skip the passport and driving, fly. There are several places you can go without one.

A. Why drive to Mexico, when the US has way to many places that are just as good without the hassle of border patrol etc.

-Myrtle Beach- well I don’t have to go into much detail here. There are a few clubs and enjoyable things to do here, but dont expect much in the way of typical college fun. Its cheaper than Florida however. Temperatures are usually in the 70’s, but ocean temperatures are generally not warm enough to jump in. There are some excellent places along the water to rent ocean equipment, including jet skis and ski-dos.

-FLORIDA: Well this entire state is a party. Panama is a spot, as is the always college friendly South Beach. Miami is quite a trip, fly into Fort Lauderdale for a cheaper airfare. Expect a lot of Spanish if you stay in Miami. I stayed at the Motel 6 in Fort Lauderdale, half mile from the ocean it was a steal at 60 bucks. It was clean, and affordable. Orlando is another option for the cheaper flights.

-Ski Resorts- well of course for those who actually WANT snow- Colorado is a great place to go. Winter Park, Aspen, Breckenridge all to name a few. I myself prefer Steamboat Springs- the hot springs resorts are a wonder- get to know others while steaming in an outdoor spa in 30 degree weather- why not! Fly into Denver for the best deals. Obviously Whistler, in British Columbia is an option as well- fly into Seattle (without that passport) or Vancouver with a passport, rent a car and take the 3 hour or so drive up there. The hotels are however a bit pricey unless you stay in Vancouver.

-Texas- Padre Island I have heard is great, but I haven’t been there. Fly into Houston for the best deals- especially on Continental since the hub is located there. You can still drive to Mexico if you care to take a tour and have a drink or two without worries.

C. Carribean- yes you can still get there without a passport. Parts of it are US owned, like the US Virgin Islands. Puerto Rico is also an option- great nightlife. The legal drinking age there is 18- a great perk. Take US Air with a connection in Charlotte or Philly as your best bet airline.
