Why time zones blow: Part 2
Why time zones blow: Part 2

What about living on the border of a time zone? Isn’t it confusing enough to live on state borders? I had a friend who lived in Massachusetts right on the border of New Hampshire. He lived in MA but worked in NH so it cost him more to live in MA even though he was less than 5 minutes from NH and he got MA taxes which are higher yet he got paid NH wages which are lower. If he goes shopping and eats and buys food in NH he gets taxed on the food but not on the clothes he buys but if he does the same in MA he gets taxed on the clothes and not the food. Now that’s bad enough.
Now try living in South Dakota on the time zone border. You get up at 8:00 am, take 45 minutes to get ready, 15 minutes to drive to work and arrive at 8:00 am. You go home for lunch at 12:00 pm and arrive at 1:15 pm, 15 minutes away. After 30 minutes of eating and 15 minutes of driving back, you get back to work at 1:00 pm. You get out of work at 5:00 pm and take an hour to get home with driving and stopping to get groceries for dinner but you don’t get home until 7:00 pm. Now all you want to do after a long day of work is relax, watch some MTV and hear the latest news on Jamie Lynn Spears’ new baby, surf the web and check out who wrote on your facebook wall, and maybe see what you can get for some cheap airfare for your family vacation. But, it’s after 7:00 and your family is waiting for dinner. Where in the world did the time go, or come from?
Again, time zones are a waste of time, literally.
